TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iraq’s An-Nujaba Islamic resistance movement described a recent Quran desecration by Ukrainian soldiers as an appalling move, stressing that the Muslim world should not leave it unanswered.

Nujaba in a statement strongly condemned the act of sacrilege, saying Muslims all around the world are angry at insulting the Book of God by a number of Ukrainian soldiers.

Underlining the importance of safeguarding Islamic sanctities, the statement said such an insulting move is rooted in the hated culture of supporters of the US and Zionism.

It said over a billion Muslims in the world hold the Ukrainian government responsible for the appalling act.

Nujaba also called on all Muslim nations and governments to act responsibly in defending the Book of God and put it on their agenda to reconsider ties with the Kiev government if necessary.

The movement further urged the Iraqi nation and government to lead the way in adopting a decisive stance against the act of sacrilege.

Sheikh Khizr Shahrour, a representative of Syria’s Awqaf minister, also denounced the Quran desecration and said it was a move aimed at turning a political war into a religious one.

He told RT Arabic in an interview that the Ukrainian government’s silence on the appalling move by its military forces means Kiev approves of it.

Radical elements in the Ukrainian army recently released a video featuring their desecration of a copy of Islam’s Holy Book.

The TikTok video posted online shows Ukrainian soldiers tearing a page from a copy of the Quran and placing it in a fire, where it subsequently caught alight.
